(CBS/AP) DALLAS - A robbery suspect climbed to the top of a construction crane on the Southern Methodist University campus and threatened to shoot police Monday, CBS DFW reports.

Dallas Police SWAT officers, SMU Police, and University Park Police all responded to the scene, just outside the football stadium on the south side of SMU's campus.

SMU spokesman Kent Best says a person believed to have been a fugitive from Dallas police took refuge Monday in the cab of a crane being used on a construction site for student housing.

It is not clear if the man is armed.

Best says there are a limited number of people on campus because of the Memorial Day holiday, but officials were planning to warn people to avoid the area.

Officers pursued the man onto SMU's campus Monday morning. He climbed the crane trying to get away, officers said.
