Crash hurts Salma Hayek's brother, kills passenger

The brother of actress Salma Hayek was hospitalized with broken ribs after being involved in a Los Angeles car crash that killed his passenger.

Police officer Zachary Hutchings says 40-year-old Sami Hayek was driving on Sunset Boulevard in a 2006 Ford GT on Sunday when he lost control and collided with a 2011 Toyota Tacoma pickup.

Coroner's officials say the crash killed 43-year-old Ian Cuttler Sala. According to his website, Cuttler was a photographer and art director who won a Grammy for his design of the "Johnny Cash: The Legend" music box set.

The driver of the Tacoma, 20-year-old Alvin Gomez, suffered a broken foot.

Hayek broke several ribs.

Investigators haven't determined what caused Hayek to lose control.

Hayek, the younger brother of the actress, is a furniture designer.
