"Crappy art" displayed as protest in West Virginia square, "artist" arrested
(CBS/AP) MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - A West Virginia man insisting on more public art crafted a unique object of protest, attaching three purple helium balloons to a toilet, then putting it on a pedestal and placing it in a city square.
The Herald-Mail reports David Heatwole of Martinsburg also attached a fake bill of sale to his creation, labeling it a "crappy work of art."
He got arrested for littering.
The Herald-Mail reports Heatwole, 42, could be fined up to $500 if convicted May 2 in Municipal Court. Heatwole tells the newspaper he wanted to show the city that art can make the city a better place to live.
We're not sure he got his point across.
