Craigslist Sex Slave Case: Man indicted for allegedly luring Wis. woman to be NYC sex slave
(CBS/WCBS) New York man John Hopkins was indicted on charges of rape, assault and unlawful imprisonment after a Wisconsin woman claimed he lured her to his home to be his sex slave.
CNN reports that Hopkins was indicted Thursday on 62 counts, including rape in the first degree, unlawful imprisonment in the second degree, assault in the second degree and assault in the second degree as a sexually motivated felony.
The woman claims she answered a Craigslist ad placed by Hopkins offering rent-free lodging in exchange for domestic assistance, reports CBS station WCBS.
According to The New York Post, Hopkins allegedly paid for the 27-year-old victim's plane ticket, picked her up at Kennedy Airport Feb. 4 and brought her to his place on Humboldt Street.
The woman says that Hopkins then told her that he had flown her to New York to be his sex slave. He then allegedly blindfolded and gagged her, handcuffed her to a radiator and began beating and raping her.
Oddly, she told police she was allowed out of the apartment once, but returned, according to WCBS.
The woman eventually contacted her mother in Wisconsin, who called 911.
It's not yet known why the woman didn't call 911 herself.
When police arrived at the apartment, they reportedly found rope, whips and a ball-gag near the woman, who was curled up in the fetal position on the bed.
