Craig Speaks!
Still back in Idaho, ducking the press and his fellow lawmakers, Sen. Larry Craig has taken a moment to weigh in on Gen. David Petraeus’s testimony about Iraq.
The Republican senator defended Petraeus, whom he thought was unfairly judged before he had a chance to explain himself.
“Unfortunately, many were quick to prejudge the surge, as well as the testimony of General Petraeus and Ambassador Crocker," Craig said in a statement posted on his website. “I believe their testimony told a positive story. Our soldiers are making progress on the ground.’’
Craig has a Sept. 26 court date on his motion to withdraw his disorderly conduct guilty plea in a police gay sex sting in a men’s room at the Minneapolis airport. And, if he loses, his aides have indicated he’ll resign by Sept. 30 as he said he intended to do after his arrest erupted into a public brouhaha last month.
