"Cougar Town" camp feeling out name change
(CBS) What's in a name? If you're Bill Lawrence, the co-creator and showrunner for "Cougar Town," the name may be a big reason people decided whether they'll watch the show.
Access Hollywood reports Lawrence is soliciting suggestions for a name change because he thinks viewers may be put off by the title. Busy Philipps, who stars on the show with Courteney Cox, tweeted enthusiastically, "Go for it! Seriously."
On Lawrence's Twitter page, readers can find comments from some of his followers saying they haven't watched the show because of the name. "Knowing that [Bill Lawrence] hates the title more than i do has made me decide to watch Cougar Town, cuz i wrote it off due to the title," reads one tweet.
Another reads, "I want ["Cougar Town"] to get a new title, cause i can't stand polish promo's 'it's not easy being a cougar' it's not what show's bout!"
The half-hour comedy, about Cox's character and all the people in her life - her kid, ex-husband, friends and boyfriend - has aired on ABC for two seasons and will air a third beginning in November.
