Copy-wrong: NYC law firm employee admits stealing $376,000 worth of copy machine toner
(CBS/AP) NEW YORK - A 39-year-old man has pleaded guilty to stealing $376,000 worth of copy machine toner from his former job at a New York City law firm.
According to Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus Vance, Adrian Rodriguez ordered hundreds of thousands of dollars of toner from vendors between 2010 and 2012 while working at Fried, Frank, Harris, Shriver and Jacobson LLP. He then re-sold the black ink cartridges for $10, and the color cartridges for $15 on what officials call a growing black market for office supplies.
According to the New York Times, Rodriguez held a low-level position at the duplication room of the law firm. At face value, the toner cartridges were worth between $80 to $259 each.
Rodriguez is scheduled to be sentenced for second-degree grand larceny on May 21.
