Cops: N.J. man killed cousin, 62, and her foster child, 10

FREEHOLD, N.J. - A New Jersey man allegedly strangled his cousin and her 10-year-old foster daughter after he was caught taking pornographic pictures of the young girl, reports CBS New York.

Brian Farmer, 58, is charged with two counts of first-degree murder in the deaths of 62-year-old Joan Colbert and her foster daughter, Veronica Roach. They were found dead in their first-floor apartment on Aug. 1 in Long Branch, N.J., according to the station.

The Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office said investigators determined Farmer killed Colbert and Roach after the woman witnessed him taking pornographic photos of her foster daughter on July 30. Prosecutors said that detectives found pictures of the girl on Farmer's cellphone.

CBS New York reports the suspect is also facing child endangerment and child pornography charges.

A neighbor of the victims who knew Colbert told the station that the tragedy has brought at least one silver lining. "Someone with an evil spirit has been removed from the streets," said the neighbor.

Farmer is currently being held on $2.5 million cash bail. If convicted of both murders, he faces life in prison without the possibility of parole.
