Cops: Missing Mass. toddler found alive after search

HAMILTON, Mass. --A toddler who was reported missing from her northeast Massachusetts home early Friday has been found alive and was taken to a hospital, police say.

The girl, 2, was last seen by her parents around 3 a.m. at her home in Hamilton, and they reported her missing around 7 a.m., reports CBS Boston. A massive ground and air search was launched and police roped off the family's home with crime scene tape, reports the station.

At a news conference Friday, Hamilton Police Chief Russell Stevens said the girl was located just as police were preparing to issue an Amber Alert. Stevens couldn't say whether the girl was taken from her home or if she wandered off.

CBS Boston reported the girl was discovered in an area where she could be seen by a passerby, but police didn't immediately provide more information about where she was found.

A spokesperson at Beverly Hospital confirmed to the station that the child was being treated there and said she was in fair condition. She was being re-united with her parents there late Friday morning. Police couldn't say whether or not the child had been injured.

The home was being treated as a crime scene out of an "abundance of caution," a Massachusetts state police spokesman said. Police were conducting interviews and processing several locations for evidence.

"We're trying to put the pieces together right now," Stevens said.
