(CBS/KYW) SOUDERTON, Pa. - Police in Pennsylvania are questioning a suspect in the apparent murder of 9-year-old Skylar Kauffman, who disappeared while playing outside her suburban Philadelphia apartment complex.

Investigators say Skylar, whose body was found in a dumpster, was last seen alive Monday, May 9, playing with friends in the parking lot of her apartment complex in the small town of Souderton. When she didn't come home for dinner, her parents called the police.

An Amber Alert was issued for the girl Monday night and the search intensified.

According to CBS affiliate KYW, police say they found evidence of a struggle in the basement of the apartment complex where she lived, and not long after that Skylar's body was found in a dumpster, wrapped in a cloth, outside her building.

Souderton police chief James Leary says police started interviewing a man who lives in that same apartment complex.

"They noticed there was what appeared to be blood splatters on his lower body," Leary told KYW. "They pursued that particular avenue, and he's in the cell block as we speak."

Leary says the suspect is known to police, but not "notorious." The chief claims there is an overwhelming amount of physical evidence against the suspect.

"The child obviously struggled and as a result of that, she lost her life," Leary says. "We have recovered evidence at the scene that we will be able to link to the perpetrator."

Leary did not release the suspect's name. Police are calling Skylar's death a murder.
