Cops: Elderly woman found dead, 3 others injured in NYC home
NEW YORK - An 87-year-old woman was found dead and three other people were found injured in a home in New York City on New Year's Day, reports CBS New York.
Police responded to a 911 call reporting an emotionally disturbed man at a home in the Bronx just before 7:30 a.m. Thursday.
When officers arrived, they found a 48-year-old man acting erratically outside the house, police said. As officers approached, the man went back inside and then barricaded himself inside a room, police said.
Neighbor John Slattery said the man then went out onto a balcony.
"Just throwing, it looks like everything except the kitchen sink, out of his house at the cops," Slattery told CBS New York's radio affiliate 1010 WINS.
After a brief standoff with police, officers were eventually able to take the man into custody.
While searching the home, police said they found 87-year-old Alice Durso unconscious and unresponsive in another room with head trauma. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
A 67-year-old woman with an injury to her left arm, a 55-year-old man with head trauma and a 56-year-old woman with a laceration to her face were also found inside the home. They were all taken to the hospital in stable condition, reports the station.
The 48-year-old man was taken to the hospital for an evaluation and remains in police custody, police said.
