Cops: Armed men pose as FBI agents to rob NJ jewelry store

RAMSEY, N.J. - Two men who claimed to be FBI agents robbed a New Jersey jeweler at gunpoint and left three people tied up in a back room as they looted the store, police said.

The robbery occurred at Aydin Coins & Jewelry in Ramsey around 11:20 a.m. Monday. The two suspects entered the store and claimed they were involved in an investigation about a reported meth lab, police said.

The suspects used zip ties to handcuff three people, including the store's owner, and looted the store's safe and several display cases, police said.

After he heard the bandits leave the store, the owner managed to break free of his ties and went to a neighboring bagel shop and asked its owner to call police.

"They got tied up, they got robbed, the people ran away and everybody's good now," said Fred Greenberg, the owner of the bagel shop.

Greenberg said he's been in business 20 years and nothing like this has ever happened before, reports CBS New York's radio affiliate 1010 WINS.

Police said the suspects made off with an unknown quantity of merchandise.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Ramsey Police Department at 201-327-2400.
