Cops: 3 inmates escape from Wis. corrections center

NEW RICHMOND, Wis. -- Officials are searching Thursday for three inmates who escaped from a minimum-security correctional center in western Wisconsin overnight, reports CBS Minnesota.

Jesse Fairley, Andre L. Vance, and Kyle J. Peterson escaped from the St. Croix County Correctional Center in New Richmond, about 40 miles northeast of St. Paul, reports the station. The three were reportedly at the corrections facility for offenses ranging from vehicular theft and drug possession to burglary and forgery.

A stolen vehicle reported about three miles north of the facility could be involved in the escape, reports the station. However, investigators don't have a clear indication of where they may be headed, New Richmond Police Department Chief Mark W. Samelstad tells 48 Hours' Crimesider.

The car is a silver Hyundai Sonata with the license plate "597 LMS." Schools in the area closed for the day as the search continued, CBS Minnesota reported.

The correctional center reportedly operates the Challenge Incarceration Program, which includes manual work assignments and discipline.

The inmates were last seen wearing gray gym shorts, white long-sleeved shirts and tennis shoes, reports the station.

Anyone who sees the inmates should all 911 or the St. Croix County Dispatch at 715-386-4704 immediately.
