Conn. man won't face prison time in son's hot car death

DANBURY, CT. -- A western Connecticut man won't face prison time in the death of his toddler son who he left in a hot car last summer, reports CBS New York.

Kyle Seitz, of Ridgefield, received a one year suspended sentence and two years of conditional release at his sentencing Thursday, reports the Hartford Courant.

Seitz left his fifteen-month-old son Benjamin in the car after forgetting to drop the child off at day care before heading off to work on July 7, 2014, according to CBS New York.

The child was reportedly was inside the car for more than seven hours as temperatures reached the upper 80s before Seitz discovered his lifeless body.

Seitz was charged with criminally negligent homicide after a medical examiner ruled the child's death a homicide, reports the station.

Seitz entered an Alford plea to the charge last month, not admitting guilt but conceding the evidence against him would likely result in a conviction at trial. A guilty finding was entered for him, reports CBS New York.

Criminally negligent homicide is a misdemeanor punishable by no more than one year in prison, reports the Courant.

Seitz has two other children and has been free on bail.
