Conn. jewelry heist murder suspect captured in Spain

(CBS/AP) Westport, Conn. - Authorities say a man who killed a Connecticut jeweler and stole $300,000 in diamonds has been arrested in Spain.

U.S. Attorney David Fein said Tuesday that Andrew Robert Levene, also known as Robert Thomas, was arrested on Monday and charged with federal murder, robbery and firearm offenses in the Dec. 8 fatal shooting of Yekutiel Zeevi, the owner of YZ Manufacturers LLC in Westport.

Authorities say Levene stole about $300,000 in diamonds and fled to Europe.

According to CBS New York, prosecutors said a few days after the fatal shooting, Levene flew to Amsterdam and was then tracked down in Spain.

Ronen Konfino, an executive at a New York diamond business, also was shot, but survived and helped police in the investigation.
