Congress To Negotiate Over The Weekend With Paulson, Votes On Plan Next Week

Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson announced Friday morning that he would work with Congress over the weekend to reach an agreement on a plan that would address the root causes of the burgeoning financial crisis.

A senior Democratic aide told Politico they expected to get the plan from Paulson later in the day on Friday, however, they cautioned the plan needed to be geared not just for big banks.

"We are going to be very careful that this is not perceived as helping Wall Street and not Main Street," the aide said.

The aide said a vote on the plan would come next week but did not give a specific day.
