Cocktail, neat and clean: Man stole hand sanitizer for drinks

ALTOONA, Pa. - A central Pennsylvania man is accused of stealing 12 bottles of hand sanitizer from a hospital, so he could use the alcohol to make cocktails by mixing it with orange juice.

That's defnitely the hard stuff.

Police say an employee at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center in Altoona initially saw Lee Ammerman steal one bottle of sanitizer by hiding it in an arm sling he was wearing in October.  Police say Ammerman,. 51, returned to steal more of the hand cleanser twice in December.

Police say when they confronted Ammerman he acknowledged what he was up to, saying "I mix the liquid with orange juice."

The Altoona Mirror reports Ammerman was mailed a summons requiring him to surrender in February on charges of theft and receiving stolen property.

The hospital is seeking about $80 in restitution.
