Secretary of State Hillary Clinton is expected to meet with exiled Honduran President Manuel Zelaya Tuesday, the Associated Press reports.

Zelaya, pictured left, was thrown out of office last week in what some are describing as a coup. He attempted to return to Honduras on Sunday, the AP reports, but was blocked from landing by military personnel.

The day following the coup, President Obama said that he believed the coup was "not legal" and that the United States still considered Zelaya Honduras' "democratically elected president," the New York Times reported.

According to Reuters, State Department spokesman Ian Kelly said that the United States seeks to restore "democratic order" in Honduras. Kelly added that "democratic order" means "the return of the democratically elected president to Tegucigalpa, the return of Mel Zelaya."

Kelly also spoke out Monday deploring violence against protesters in the Honduran capital of Tegucigalpa.

"We once again call upon the de facto regime and all actors in Honduras to refrain from all acts of violence, and seek a peaceful, constitutional and lasting solution to the serious divisions in that country through dialogue," he said, according to the AP.

Zelaya attended a meeting of the Organization of American States Sunday, where he met with two U.S. diplomats. OAS suspended Honduras for its role in the coup.

Although talks are planned for Tuesday, the meeting may take place later in the week
