Christopher Lawrence has been a correspondent for CBS NEWSPATH, the affiliate news service of CBS News, since January 2001. He is based in Los Angeles.
Prior to that assignment, Lawrence was the weekend morning anchor and a reporter for WXYZ-TV Detroit (1997-2000), where his beats included investigative and consumer coverage. During that time, he covered the historic merger between Chrysler and Daimler-Benz, a deadly tornado in Florida and the last baseball game at Tiger Stadium. Before that, he was a weekend anchor, reporter and producer at WTVH-TV Syracuse (1995-97). Lawrence began his career as a reporter/photographer for WDBB-TV Tuscaloosa, Ala. (1994-95).
He was the recipient of the Associated Press Award for Best News Feature in 2000 and the Syracuse Press Club Award for Best News Feature in 1996.
Lawrence was born in Detroit, Mich., where his family still lives. He attended the University of Maryland and studied broadcast journalism.
