Bones were found in February 15 miles outside of Orlando in Lake Carter, along with George's wallet and cellphone, but the remains were not positively identified until Thursday, reports CBS affiliate WKMG.

James Hataway was one of the last people to see George alive, Apopka police said in 2009, and he is a suspect in George's disappearance. He is also a suspect in the disappearance of Tracy Ocasio in May 2009, reports the station.

Hataway was sentenced to life in prison earlier this year after being convicted of attempted murder in another case.

George's mother, Rachael George, announced that she had received notification from the Apopka Police Department about the remains being identified as her son.

A memorial for Christopher George will be held on Sunday.
