"Yes they are separated," a source close to the couple told People magazine. "Right now they're just trying to figure things out. "They have their ups and downs like all married couples."

Aguilera, 29, and Bratman, 33, a music executive, met in 2002 and wed in 2005 in a lavish Napa Valley ceremony. The two have one child together, 2-year-old son Max.

"He [Max] is their main concern," a close friend of Aguilera's told Us magazine.

"Christina is doing her best to be a great mom. She has a lot to juggle, but she's learning how to make it work and balance it all."

The pop star will next be seen in the musical drama "Burlesque," alongside Cher and Stanley Tucci.
