Charges filed in killing of Iowa teen who was shot in mouth

DES MOINES, Iowa --A 17-year-old boy has been arrested in connection with the June 9 shooting of another teenager, reports CBS affiliate KCCI.

Terry Harris, 16, was killed June 9. He was shot in the mouth at close range in the basement of a Des Moines house, according to police. Police made no arrests until Wednesday, when the 17-year-old suspect was charged with first-degree murder and first-degree robbery.

Sgt. Jason Halifax, a Des Moines police spokesperson, said money was the motivation in the case.

"Mutual friends probably so it wasn't a random act. We do believe the suspect went to his house with the intent of the robbery. It wasn't like they were hanging out and it happened," Halifax said.

Moore was already in custody being held at Meyer Hall on unrelated charges when he was arrested in Harris' murder.

Officials said other people were inside the home during the shooting. That description plus other tips and information through social media helped with this investigation.

Police said this case was not a random shooting.
