Cellphone charger blocked bullet aimed at L.A. County sheriff's deputy, report says

(CBS) LOS ANGELES - Authorities say two Los Angeles County sheriff's deputies were shot at during a traffic stop Tuesday morning, and one of them was saved from being injured when a cellphone charger in her pocket stopped the bullet, according to The Los Angeles Times.

Authorities said the tip of a cellphone charger was what blocked the bullet and that both deputies were treated and released from local hospitals, according to reports.

Lt. Mike Rosson told the newspaper he's heard of small objects stopping bullets before, "but something that small is nothing short of a miracle."

The male suspect who opened fire was reportedly killed by return fire from the deputies. He has not been identified but police say he was in his 40's.

The paper reports a man and a woman were taken into custody in connection with the case and a handgun was recovered from the scene.
