Cell phone + sperm = disaster
(CBS) - If you're trying to get pregnant, keep your man away from his cell phone! (And if you're not trying to get pregnant, I guess, keep calling your guy a lot.) A recent study found that the electromagnetic waves emitted by mobile devices weaken men's little swimmers.
Those suffering from poor sperm quality might have their mobile devices to blame said researchers at the Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology. But here's where it gets a little confusing... They discovered that while the electromagnetic waves lower levels of the luteinizing hormone exerted by the pituitary gland (yikes!), they increase the number of cells in the testes that produce testosterone.
"Our findings were a little bit puzzling," said Rany Shamloul, lead researcher on the project. "We were expecting to find different results, but the results we did find suggest that there could be some intriguing mechanisms at work."
When it comes to reproduction, ladies, you want quality (sperm) over quantity.
There's still more research to be done to figure out how this affects male fertility exactly. We hope these scientists get to the bottom of this -- for the sake of our unborn children. Perhaps they should also run tests to see if our cellies are nuking our ovaries and what-not.
