Jennifer Lopez already thought so, and now People magazine agrees: Ben Affleck is this year's "Sexiest Man Alive." The 30-year-old star of "The Sum of All Fears" and "Pearl Harbor" has been everywhere lately, mostly because of his romance with, and engagement to, Lopez. The singer and actress told People "he'll still be the sexiest man alive in my eyes when he's 100 years old."
Affleck stars with Lopez in the upcoming movies "Gigli" and "Jersey Girl." Previous winners of the magazine's sex symbol award include Tom Cruise, George Clooney, Brad Pitt, and Pierce Brosnan.
And who is Halle Berry's favorite James Bond? Brosnan, Pierce Brosnan, of course. Berry, who co-stars with the Irish actor in "Die Another Day," says "Pierce is my Bond... Really, when I started to watch Bond movies, Pierce was the man." Runner-up, for the Oscar-winning actress, is Sean Connery, who she admires for the "lightness and silliness that he brought to it. He didn't take himself too seriously." Connery, by the way, is also a former Sexiest Man Alive. Berry evidently has her standards.
Celine Dion donned a navy blue apron to serve breakfast to dozens of elementary school students at a McDonald's restaurant in Jupiter, Fla., to raise money for the Ronald McDonald House Charities. Dion said the Ronald McDonald House in Montreal was "an incredible help" to her family members who stayed there years ago. Ronald McDonald Houses provide lodging for the families of hospitalized children. On a less serious note, the singer confided that she enjoyed golden arches dining as a child and at age 34, still does.
Justin Timberlake of 'N Sync is reacting to a tragedy that killed a fan in Burbank, California, on Sept. 9. 21-year-old Anna White of Bellevue was run over by a truck in a parking lot outside a radio station where a crowd of fans was waiting for Timberlake to emerge from an interview. Yesterday, the man who allegedly drove the truck - Cameron Albert Duty - was ordered to stand trial for murder and gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated. Timberlake, for his part, has decided to tape public service announcements warning of the dangers of driving under the influence.
Charlton Heston says he's overwhelmed and "enormously impressed" by the honor of having a sculpture of himself enshrined at the National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum in Oklahoma City. The statue portrays Heston in his role in the 1968 Western "Will Penny," holding a lariat in one hand and a rifle in the other. The artwork was donated by members of the National Rifle Association, of which the 79-year-old actor is the president. Heston, who won a best actor Oscar for 1959's "Ben-Hur," announced earlier this year that he has symptoms consistent with Alzheimer's disease.
Time has not healed all wounds for Jerry Lewis, whose relationship with Dean Martin is the subject of a movie airing Sunday on CBS. The 76-year-old comedian says he still gets teary-eyed when he thinks back to the day 46 years ago when he and Martin broke up as comedy partners. This Christmas, it will be seven years since Martin's death. Lewis says Dino was his hero and "the strongest force" in his life.
