Carney, Barrow Attacked Over FISA By Netroots
Reps. Chris Carney (D-Pa.) and John Barrow (D-Ga.) are facing opposition from their left over their support of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act, legislation that has been vigorously opposed by the liberal netroots.
Blue America PAC, which was formed to organize the liberal online community to rally against FISA-supporting Democrats, is launching television ads against Carney this week – and a new print ad campaign against Barrow as well.
The group is also advertising in the Washington Post tomorrow.
The group aired the same television advertisement districtwide against Carney in May, but the Comcast cable company initially refused to air the ad. They later agreed to run an updated ad without reference to Comcast. The new ad is scheduled to air for a week on cable throughout the district.
“We sent Chris Carney to Congress to fight for our security and our freedoms. So far, he’s missing in action,” a narrator in the ad says. “Chris Carney has surrendered to Bush and Cheney the same un-American spying powers they have in Russia and China.”
