"Captain America: The Winter Solider": New details, filming begins

Captain America is once again sporting his mighty shield.

On Monday, Marvel Studios officially announced that filming has commenced on "Captain America: The Winter Soldier," the sequel to 2011's "Captain America: The First Avenger."

Captain America was last seen in Marvel's hugely successful superhero film "The Avengers," the highest-grossing film of 2012.

In "The Winter Soldier," actor Chris Evans once again returns to the role of Steven Rogers/Captain America, a patriotic superhero from the World War II-era trying to adjust to today's times.

Scarlett Johansson and Samuel L. Jackson are also returning to co-star in the sequel, along with a notable newcomer to the series.

"Film icon Robert Redford has joined the all-star cast as Agent Alexander Pierce, a senior leader within the S.H.I.E.L.D. organization," according to Marvel.

Cast and crew are currently filming the upcoming sequel in Los Angeles, with additional shoots expected in Cleveland and Washington.

"Captain America: The Winter Soldier" will be released in the U.S. on April 4, 2014.
