Canes Sign Ranheim To New Deal
Left wing Paul Ranheim Friday became the fourth player to re-sign with the Carolina Hurricanes in as many weeks, inking a multi-year contract. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
In 73 games this season, Ranheim recorded five goals and nine assists for 14 points, the lowest total of his 10-year NHL career. He has compiled 31 goals and 57 assists in 275 games with the franchise since being acquired on March 10, 1994 in a six-player deal with the Calgary Flames.
"Paul has been a steady veteran performer for our club," said team president and general manager Jim Rutherford. "He plays his role very well as a defensive-forward and a penalty killer."
The 32-year-old was a second-round draft pick by Calgary in 1984 and had a career-best 54 points (26 goals, 28 assists) as a rookie in 1989-90. In 629 career NHL games, he has registered 125 goals and 157 assists.
Defensemen Curtis Leschyshyn and Glen Wesley and left wing Gary Roberts have also re-signed with Carolina in recent weeks.
