Canadian dad helps nab Ohio child porn suspect

CLEVELAND, Ohio - An Ohio man is in federal custody on child porn charges after a Canadian father contacted police in Toronto over sexually explicit chats and email messages his daughter was receiving, reports CBS affiliate WOIO.

Nicholas Bowers, 30, was arrested at his home in Springfield Township, Ohio on Jan. 14 and was transferred to federal custody Wednesday.

The investigation originated in Toronto on Jan. 9 when the parent of a female minor contacted police regarding explicit online messages. Authorities determined that the individual who sent the messages resided near Akron, Ohio.

Authorities with the Toronto Police Service continued exchanging chats and email messages with the suspect while portraying themselves as the minor female, reports WOIO.

Police in Toronto then contacted the local authorities in Ohio.

The Springfield Township Police Department and the FBI continued the investigation until a search warrant was obtained and executed Jan. 14 at the location where Bowers resided, according to the station.

During the execution of the search warrant, USB storage devices and CDs were among the items seized. These specific items were reportedly labeled with file names suggesting minor ages and the words "child porn pics."
