The boy's mother, Julianne McCreary, currently sits in a New Hampshire jail accused in his death, reports CBS affiliate WBZ.
Balloons were sent into the air to represent a message to heaven for Camden. The farewell was held one week almost to the hour after his body was discovered on a wooded road.
For days, he was a victim without a name, a little boy left alone in the woods. According to the station that is why the community has in a way adopted the young victim.
A large group of people showed up for Saturday's vigil, many of them mothers with children in tow, reports the station.
Vigils were held in communities across Massachusetts, too, including Lynn, Foxboro, and South Hadley.
Camden's body will be flown back to Texas this week.
