(CBS) - A woman is reportedly suing a California dollar store after slipping on a banana peel.

According to Reuters, Ida Valentine is seeking an unspecified amount in damages after slipping on a banana peel at the 99 Cents Only store in Fontana, east of Los Angeles, last April.

The 58-year-old woman claims she spent $9,000 on medical bills after suffering a herniated disk and tissue damage, the news agency reports.

Her attorney, Courtney Mikolaj, said the store refused a proposed settlement of $44,000.

The 99 Cents Only store is a chain of deep-discount retailers with stores mostly based in the western U.S.

Executives from the company were not immediately available for comment to Reuters.
