Teen dies after collapsing at football practice

ALAMEDA, Calif. -- A student at a San Francisco Bay Area high school died on Tuesday, CBS San Francisco reports.

The student was at preseason football practice at Encinal High School in Alameda, according to fire department spokesman Juan Medrano.

The student reportedly collapsed on the football field around 6:15 p.m. and was transported to Highland Hospital, where he died.

The school district did not immediately disclose whether the players were practicing in full pads at the practice.

Counselors will be present on the campus Wednesday morning.

Medrano said further details about the student and the circumstances surrounding the student's death were not immediately available.
