Anthony Sanchez CBS Los Angeles/Anaheim Police Department

(CBS) - A California man accused of drunken driving was charged Wednesday with killing three women after crashing into them as they walked home from a baby shower, CBS Los Angeles reports.

Anthony Sanchez, 40, was allegedly speeding and driving under the influence Saturday evening on an intersection in Anaheim, Calif. when he crashed into Carmen Mendoza, 56, Sheyla Mendoza, 21, and Stephanie Henriquez, 21, as they were crossing the street, according to the station. The Orange County District Attorney's office said the three victims were related.

Sanchez is accused of failing to stop and barely slowing down before crashing into the victims at a high rate of speed, CBS Los Angeles reports. The Anaheim Police Department said Sanchez had a blood alcohol level of .17 percent, more than twice the legal limit.

Sanchez is charged with three felony counts of vehicular manslaughter as well as other charges, including driving under the influence and causing great bodily injury, the station reports. If convicted, he faces a maximum sentence of 12 years and eight months in state prison.
