(CBS) GLENDALE, Calif. - Police said a 34-year-old man was arrested Thursday for driving around naked from the waist down, claiming it gave him a sense of "freedom."

The Los Angeles Times reports that Umar Khan often drives around the city at night or in the early morning looking for a cul-de-sac or home driveway to park in and masturbate, Police Sgt. Tom Lorenz said.

Khan was arrested around 2:23 a.m. Thursday when officers noticed he failed to yield at a stop sign. When police tried to stop the suspect, he fled, but was stopped on a nearby street.

When officers approached Khan's vehicle, they saw he wasn't wearing pants or underwear, their report says.

The Glendale News-Press says when asked why he wasn't wearing pants, Khan allegedly told police: "My thing is the freedom."

Authorities said Khan quickly began to talk about his personal life, admitting he was "sexually frustrated."

He was arrested on suspicion of indecent exposure, possessing methamphetamine and driving under the influence.

This isn't the first time Khan sexual predilections have gotten him in trouble with the law: he was convicted of indecent exposure in 1998, according to Los Angeles Superior Court records.
