Buzz Briefs: Rihanna & Pink, Sanjaya

Rihanna, Pink Added To VMAs Roster

Rihanna is back for another performance at the MTV Video Music Awards, along with Pink, Paramore and T.I., who will be making his first appearance at a major awards show since his arrest right before an awards ceremony last year.

The VMAs are set for Sept. 7 in Los Angeles with British comedian Russell Brand as the host. Performers already announced include the Jonas Brothers, Lil Wayne and Kid Rock.

Rihanna is slated to perform her No. 1 hit "Disturbia"; Paramore plans to sing "Misery Business," while Pink is scheduled to showcase her new song "Say What."

"I can't wait," Pink said Thursday, adding that she plans to "blow stuff up."

Rapper T.I.'s appearance will be noteworthy given that the last time he was scheduled to perform at an awards show, he was arrested instead. He was apprehended in the parking last October before the BET Hip-Hop Awards in Atlanta and accused of trying to buy machine guns and silencers; he was sentenced earlier this year to serve about a year in prison after completing at least 1,000 hours of community service. He has a new album out next month.

"Idol's" Sanjaya Goes Nationwide

Former "American Idol" contestant Sanjaya has gone from "pitchy" to pitchman.

Sanjaya Malakar is selling Nationwide Insurance in a new ad that's part of the Columbus, Ohio-based company's campaign, "Life Comes at You Fast."

Malakar says that's something he knows from personal experience. In a statement, he points out that he went from an unknown singer to appearing before of millions of people on "Idol."

In the commercial, Malakar visits a wise man who tells him he needs a retirement plan - and a haircut. He sports a "ponyhawk" hairstyle similar to the one he made famous while competing on the Fox network show, where the judges often deem off-key singing "pitchy."

Other celebrities who have poked fun at themselves for Nationwide include Kevin Federline, Fabio and MC Hammer.

Microsoft Picks Jerry Seinfeld To Promote Windows

Comedian Jerry Seinfeld will appear in Microsoft Corp.'s next Windows advertising campaign.

A person familiar with the plans confirmed a Wall Street Journal report Thursday that named Seinfeld as the company's new pitchman. The person spoke to The Associated Press on condition on anonymity because the plans have not been formally announced.

Seinfeld is being brought on board to help brighten Microsoft's image as the company tries to move past its bumpy launch of Windows Vista.

Matt Damon's Wife Gives Birth To Girl

Matt Damon's wife Luciana gave birth to a baby girl Wednesday, his spokeswoman said.

The baby's name is Gia Zavala Damon, spokeswoman Jennifer Allen told The Associated Press, adding: "Everyone is great and she is a healthy, beautiful baby girl."

She wouldn't give any further details.

The 37-year-old Damon, a Massachusetts native, met wife Luciana, 32, in 2003 while she was working as a bartender in Florida and he was filming "Stuck on You." They tied the knot in December 2005 in New York during a private ceremony attended by the bride's daughter, Alexa, now 10, from a previous marriage.

They later welcomed a daughter, Isabella, who was born in June 2006.

Jennifer Garner Confirms Pregnancy

On the same day Damon's wife gave birth, his buddy's wife confirms she's pregnant again. Jennifer Garner tells "Access Hollywood" she and hubby Ben Affleck are "so excited, obviously."

At first, Garner giggled and said "Oh, I'm not pregnant. I just had a lot of carbs for breakfast."

She says it always makes her laugh when people say "'Is she? Isn't she?" She says "it's like, eventually you will know, so just chill out for a minute." Garner isn't saying when she's due or if the baby's a boy or a girl.

Their first baby, daughter Violet, was born in December 2005. Both Garner and Affleck are 36.

Mom-To-Be Minnie's "Take"

Minnie Driver (a former girlfriend of Matt Damon) is about to give birth to her first child, but is in the position of having to promote a movie where she plays a mother whose child is killed.

Even though she can understand her character's initial desire for revenge, Driver agrees with the movie's premise that the only way you can survive a tragedy like that is through forgiveness. She says forgiveness the only way you can move on with your life and to help your family.

"Take" opens in more theaters tomorrow.

Angie Harmon, Jason Sehorn Expecting Baby No. 3

Angie Harmon and husband Jason Sehorn are expecting their third child, Harmon's publicist confirmed Wednesday.

The 36-year-old actress and 37-year-old former National Football League player were married in 2001 and have two daughters, 4-year-old Finley and 3-year-old Avery.

Harmon's TV credits include "Law & Order" and "Women's Murder Club." Sehorn played for the New York Giants and the St. Louis Rams.

Sehorn proposed to Harmon on the "Tonight" show, surprising her in front of host Jay Leno by walking on stage, kneeling down and popping the question.

Next "Bachelor" Is "Bachelorette" Reject

If the new man looking for love on ABC's "The Bachelor" looks familiar, that's because he was rejected last season on "The Bachelorette."

Jason Mesnick, whose proposal to DeAnna Pappas was spurned during the finale, will search for romance among 25 bachelorettes when the 13th season of the reality series returns in January.

ABC said Wednesday that the 32-year-old single father is looking for a woman who "has a real curiosity about the world, who loves life and can find passion in life's smallest moments." The network is casting for eligible women to vie for Mesnick's attention.

Mesnick lost out in May during the fourth-season "Bachelorette" season finale to professional snowboarder Jesse Csincsak, who's engaged to Pappas. She herself was rejected by previous "Bachelor" Brad Womack during the series' 11th season.
