Buzz Briefs: Pierce Brosnan, Hulk Hogan

Pierce Brosnan Sued Over Parking Lot Fracas

Actor Pierce Brosnan is being sued for assault, battery and negligence by a photographer who claims the actor shoved him during a scuffle in a Malibu parking lot.

Robert Rosen said he was taking photos of Brosnan on Oct. 26 when "suddenly and without warning," the 54-year-old actor struck him in the chest, causing "severe physical and emotional pain and injuries, including bruised ribs."

Calls to Brosnan's attorney weren't immediately returned Tuesday.

The lawsuit, filed Monday in Los Angeles Superior Court, claims Rosen wasn't chasing the ex-James Bond and former "Remington Steele" star and didn't invade his privacy. It also claimed the attack was "designed to inflict pain and injury."

The freelance photographer is suing for unspecified general and punitive damages, the cost of medical and psychological treatment, and lost earnings.

The Hulk Wants The Best For The Fam

2It's been a rough year for Hulk Hogan and family.

The celebrity wrestler's wife, Linda, has filed for divorce after 24 years of marriage, and the couple's 17-year-old son, Nick Bollea, is facing charges of reckless driving after an Aug. 26 crash in Clearwater, Fla., that left a friend critically injured.
"I'm leaning into the wind," Hogan, whose real name is Terry Bollea, told syndicated TV entertainment show "Access Hollywood" on Monday. "I'm trying to stay very, very positive. You know, I just pray that things get better for my family."

"As far as my son goes, we're going to be very happy when the truth really comes out of what really (happened), instead of all the speculation and all the mentality that's going on," Hogan, 54, said. "As far as my divorce goes, I love my family and I love my wife to death and I just don't know what tomorrow's going to bring."

When asked about a possible reconciliation with his wife, Hogan said: "There's always a chance. You can never say never."

Hogan and Laila Ali co-host NBC's "American Gladiators," a revival of the '90s competition series. The new edition debuts Jan. 6.

"Things are bigger and faster," Hogan said of the show. "Now we've got water - and I wish it was shark-infested."

Gwen Stefani Helps San Diego Wildfire Victims

3Gwen Stefani is contributing $166,000 from her local concert to provide scholarships for students who lost their homes in San Diego's recent wildfires.

Proceeds from her Oct. 30 concert in San Diego were donated to the San Diego Foundation's fire relief fund.

"When I heard about the devastation of the fires, at first I felt I should cancel my show out of respect. But then it occurred to me there might be a more useful solution," Stefani said in a recent statement.

The Gwen Stefani After-the-Fires Scholarship will be open to graduating high school seniors and current college students who lost their homes or their income sources in the October fires, which killed at least 10 people and destroyed more than 1,700 homes.

The scholarship application deadline is Jan. 28.

Dr. Dre Off The Hook In Privacy Case

5As he did in 2003, a Wayne County judge has dismissed an invasion of privacy case brought by former Detroit officials against Dr. Dre.

Former police officers and the press secretary for former Mayor Dennis Archer accuse the 42-year-old rapper, whose real name is Andre Young, of improperly videotaping a backstage conversation at a concert in 2000.

A DVD set that showed the exchange was later released.

Circuit Judge John Murphy ruled the city workers had no reason to think the conversation was private. They had appealed Murphy's previous ruling.

Murphy's latest decision, issued Dec. 4, was released Monday.

The Detroit Free Press reported that Murphy's ruling was a surprise, because in October he said he was inclined to let the case go to trial.

Regis To Host Oscar Red Carpet Show

Regis Philbin is taking on more television duties.

The co-host of "Live with Regis and Kelly," who holds the Guinness World Record for the most time spent in front of a TV camera, will host the official Oscar red carpet show, producers announced Monday.

Dennis Doty, producer of the arrivals show that airs just before the Academy Awards ceremony, called the 76-year-old Philbin "the perfect guy to serve as host."

"He knows everyone, and everyone loves Regis," Doty said in a statement.

The arrivals show will air at 8 p.m. EST Feb. 24 on ABC. The 80th Academy Awards will be presented beginning at 8:30 p.m EST.

Eddie Van Halen Returns To A Flooded Yard

It wasn't the homecoming Eddie Van Halen was hoping for.

The guitar legend had been in Edmonton, Alberta, where his band had just performed, when a call came in early Monday morning from Los Angeles fire officials.

A broken water main in Studio City sent thousands of gallons of water flowing down Coldwater Canyon Avenue and into Van Halen's yard.

He arrived home from Canada around noon and surveyed the damage.

"It could have been a lot worse," said Janie Liszewski, Van Halen's publicist and live-in girlfriend.

"The pool is buried in mud, the driveway gate is down and some major landscaping is going to be needed to restore the yard to its former self," Liszewski said.

Fire spokesman Cecil Manresa confirmed Van Halen's was the lone home affected by the water, and said sandbags placed around the house prevented any water from entering inside.

Daniel Baldwin's Lawyer: It Was Just A Mix-Up

Daniel Baldwin's said he will ask a judge to cancel an arrest warrant issued for the actor, calling Baldwin's recent failure to show up in court a mix up.

A Superior Court judge issued the no-bail bench warrant Friday and revoked Baldwin's probation when he didn't appear in court to give a progress report on his drug rehabilitation.

Baldwin was required to meet with the judge in connection with a cocaine-possession case.

Baldwin was aware of the hearing and contacted his probation officer Thursday to report that he couldn't make it because he was in Canada shooting a movie, said his attorney, Grant Hoagland, adding that the message apparently did not reach the judge.

Quiet Riot Singer's Death Caused By Cocaine Overdose

The death last month of Kevin Dubrow, lead singer for the 1980s heavy metal band Quiet Riot, has been ruled an accidental cocaine overdose.

Clark County coroner spokeswoman Samantha Charles confirmed the cause Monday after toxicology results were received Monday.

Dubrow was found dead Nov. 25 at his Las Vegas home. He was 52.

Quiet Riot was perhaps best known for its 1983 cover of "Cum on Feel the Noize." The song, featuring Dubrow's powerful, gravelly voice, appeared on the band's album "Metal Health" - which was the first by a metal band to reach No. 1 on the Billboard chart.

Gary Collins Won't Face More Charges After Death of Motorist

Gary Collins will not face additional charges as a result of the death of a driver involved in a crash that's already led to jail time for the TV personality.

Frank Mateljan, a spokesman for the city attorney's office, said Monday's decision was made because police determined Warren Gates, the other driver, caused the crash by failing to stop at a red light.

Gates, 89, died Friday at the hospital, according to the coroner's office.

Chief coroner's investigator Craig Harvey said the cause of Gates' death was listed as an Oct. 23 auto accident and that an autopsy would be performed.

Collins was driving in the San Fernando Valley when his 2004 Ford Explorer was struck by a vehicle driven by Gates. Collins was not injured.

Collins, 69, was not found at fault in the collision, but officers said they smelled alcohol on his breath.

The TV host and actor pleaded no contest Thursday to one count each of driving under the influence and driving with a blood-alcohol content above .08, the legal limit.

He was sentenced to four days in jail and four years' probation. He was also ordered to pay a $500 fine, perform 100 hours of community service, enroll in an 18-month alcohol education program and attend 26 Alcoholics Anonymous meetings.
