Buzz Briefs: Hilary Swank, R. Kelly
Hilary Swank Recovering
Hilary Swank is recovering after a hospital procedure to remove a small, benign growth, a representative for the Oscar-winning actress said Thursday.
"She was experiencing some discomfort and went to see her doctor, who prescribed an immediate course of action that included a brief hospitalization" to eliminate the growth, Swank's manager, Jason Weinberg, said in a statement.
"Her condition has been resolved and there are no continuing health issues, with the exception of some short-term rest and recuperation," Weinberg said. He would not provide further details.
Swank, 34, won Oscars for her roles in "Boys Don't Cry" and "Million Dollar Baby." Her screen credits also include "Freedom Writers," "P.S. I Love You" and the upcoming "Amelia."
R. Kelly says He's Not Interested In "Anyone Illegal"
R. Kelly is trying to explain his past, even as he hints he will clean up his musical act in the future.
Speaking on BET, the singer didn't specifically address any of the childpornography charges on which he was acquitted back in June. But he was asked about the perception that he is attracted to young girls.
Asked if he liked teenage girls, R. Kelly responded with a question of his own: "When you say teenage, how - how old are we talkin'... 19?" He went on to say he has "some 19-year-old friends" but added that he didn't "like anybody illegal." Of course, he was married to Aaliyah when she was just 15 years old. That marriage was annulled.
On other issues, R. Kelly said he was relieved when the trial was over. And he said his upcoming album would back away from the raunchier aspects of his previous recordings.
Brangelina, Madonna And Amy Winehouse Are The New Plastic People
Forget the Oscar - Angelina Jolie has now reached a new career high.
The actress and her partner Brad Pitt have been immortalised as little Lego figurines - complete with twin babies Knox and Vivienne.
The Hollywood stars are just two of the famous faces who have been shrunk down and re-created in plastic.
Queen of pop Madonna and troubled singer Amy Winehouse have also been turned into toys - as have celebrity British couple David and Victoria Beckham.
It's all for the anniversary of the mini-figure which was first created by Danish designer Jens Nygaard Nudsen in 1978.
Unfortunately fans hoping to get their hands on Brangelina will be sad to hear that they won't be going into production - they are just one-offs to mark the 30th year of the plastic people.
Dennis Quaid Makes "Express" Stop
Actor Dennis Quaid took an unusual turn on his promotional tour for his new movie by visiting the Atlanta Falcons practice on Wednesday.
Quaid stars as Syracuse coach Ben Schwartzwalder in the movie "The Express," which tells the story of Ernie Davis, the first black player to win the Heisman Trophy.
Quaid attracted a swarm of cameras as he watched the end of the Falcons practice and then, passing with his left arm, played catch with quarterback D.J. Shockley. He also greeted offensive tackle Quinn Ojinnaka, a third-year player from Syracuse.
Quaid said he chose the role "because it's such a moving story." The movie is scheduled to open on Oct. 10 across the nation.
Movie Night With The Stars
Imagine siting beside Steve Martin for a screening of "The Jerk," sharing a theater with Mike Myers for a showing of "Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery" or squirming in your seat alongside Jodie Foster during "The Silence of the Lambs."
These stars - along with Dustin Hoffman, Cameron Diaz, Denzel Washington, Annette Bening, Jim Carrey, Shirley MacLaine, Rita Moreno and Keanu Reeves -- will share some of their most famous films with their fans next month at "Target Presents AFI Night at the Movies."
The one-night-only event is set to take over the ArcLight theater in Hollywood on Oct. 1, the American Film Institute announced Wednesday.
The idea is to bring filmmakers and fans together to celebrate American movies, said AFI chief Bob Gazzale. "It is a fireworks show of American film," he said, "and AFI's honor to celebrate the artists and their contributions to the rich cultural legacy of our nation."
Denzel Washington's Campaign For Kids
A lot of people ask what's wrong with kids today. But Denzel Washington says the more important question is: what's the deal with adults.
The Oscar-winning actor says it troubles him that adults "are not more committed" to helping young people.
He was in Washington D.C. Wednesday for an event promoting the Boys and Girls Clubs of America. He's helping to launch a campaign featuring photos of celebrities in their younger years and showing how they look now.
Washington says young people "will go as far as we take them, so the onus is on us, not on the children." Others, who like Washington, attended the clubs as kids include Jackie Joyner-Kersee, Shaquille O'Neal, Martin Sheen and Wesley Clark.
DeGeneres On The Move
Ellen DeGeneres says she moved her show to the Warner Brothers lot to be near George Clooney. She jokes she's starting to dig now. She says she's "going to build a tunnel to his office and surprise him someday."
Outside of work, DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi just celebrated one month of marriage. DeGeneres says she set the table and ordered food in. It arrived in plastic containers. She says she heated the oven but didn't know what to transfer the food to or if it should be covered. So, she says she had to wait for de Rossi "to come home for her to heat it up." DeGeneres admits she's "not Martha Stewart."
