Buzz Briefs: Eva Mendes, Teri Hatcher

Eva Mendes Enters Rehab For "Personal Issues"

Eva Mendes has "issues."

"Eva has been working hard for the past year and made a positive decision to take some much-needed time off to proactively attend to some personal issues that, while not critical, she felt deserved some outside professional support," the actress' publicist, Brad Cafarelli, said Friday in a statement.

The celebrity Web site TMZ reported Friday that Mendes had checked into a Utah rehab center for substance abuse.

Mendes' screen credits include "Training Day," "2 Fast 2 Furious," "Hitch" and "Ghost Rider."

Teri Hatcher Hailed As Belle Of Vienna's Opera Ball

2It's Austria's social extravaganza of the year and Teri Hatcher was the undisputed belle of the ball.

Austrian television pronounced the "Desperate Housewives" star the most impressive guest at Thursday night's opulent Vienna Opera Ball, whose other celebrity guests included opera diva Anna Netrebko and retro fashion muse Dita Von Teese.

"Hatcher outshone everyone in her simple dress with little decoration and her understated makeup," said public television ORF, which broadcast the ball live. "She impressed with her simplicity."

"I love the Opera Ball," Hatcher said at the ball, which is held annually in the downtown Vienna State Opera house.

Austrian media had focused for days on Von Teese, whose real name is Heather Sweet. She is the former wife of goth rocker Marilyn Manson.

But Hatcher's surprise visit brought "a touch of Hollywood" to the ball, ORF said Friday.

Brooke Shields: Older, Wiser And Still A Beauty

3Actress and former model Brooke Shields has proved that she's the whole package -- with both good looks and brains.

The "Lipstick Jungle" star dishes on work, children, love and coping with aging in Parade Magazine's Sunday issue.

With her new hit series "Lipstick Jungle," Shields is revisiting a more risqué, spunkier role, like that of her earlier days when she starred in the racy and controversial roles in films, such as "Pretty Baby," where she played a child prostitute.

Shields also raised eyebrows with a series of Calvin Klein ads as well as her role on the Blue Lagoon.

"I keep thinking I'm younger than I am," Brooke Shields, 42, told PARADE. "The other day, I was working with a photographer to recreate an image we had done years ago. When I saw my face, I kind of went, 'What is that?' I assumed I was going to look the same, and I didn't. It was a shock to my system."

If she didn't find controversial roles, controversy found her later on in life when Shields was criticized by Scientologist Tom Cruise for talking medication for her post-pardom depression.

Since the Tom Cruise debacle, Shields,' who was once married to tennis star Andre Agassi for two years, has been a happy mother of two girls and happily married to her husband Chris Henchy of seven years.

"It was like finding someone in my tribe," she told PARADE.

"Lipstick Jungle," premieres on Thursday, Feb. 7 on NBC.

Jessica Alba Defends Her Language Barrier

4Actress Jessica Alba recently made it clear in an interview with Latina Magazine that she shouldn't be given a hard time for not speaking Spanish.

"No one gives Cameron Diaz a hard time for not speaking Spanish," says Alba. "Her dad's Cuban, and I was telling her I feel so bad because everyone is so nasty to me for not speaking Spanish. She's like, 'I don't speak Spanish! I barely speak English!'," says the pregnant star with a laugh.
Although Alba's father is a second-generation Mexican, she was never brought up speaking Spanish.

According to Latina, there has been some scrutiny over Alba's language barrier since 2007, when a series of controversial quotes surfaced in which the actress appeared to question her ethnicity.

In response to those statements, Cuban-American celebrity blogger Perez Hilton has referred to her as "Jessica 'Don't Call Me Latina' Alba."

According to Alba, it's not fair to single out and pick on certain people.

Alba's interview will appear in this March's issue of Latina Magazine.

Paris Hilton, Ludacris Party Alongside 50 Cent At Pre-Game Super Bowl Concert

550 Cent captained an all-star team during his pre-game Super Bowl concert.

Between performing hits like "Candy Shop" and "Ayo Technology" with his crew, the rapper welcomed Deion Sanders and Ludacris on the Pontiac Garage Stage during Thursday's performance at the 944 Super Village, a makeshift venue constructed by 944 magazine in an empty lot adjacent to Scottdale's Fashion Square Mall.

Paris Hilton also made a cameo about halfway through 50's performance. Hilton who appears topless on the February cover of 944 magazine emerged from the front row and partially danced her way onstage with 50, drawing the attention of both professional photographers' lenses and audience members' cell phones.

"Get off my cameras," 50 joked to the heiress.

Meanwhile, two men dressed as Ooompa Loompas from "Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory" danced on tables in a VIP section.

Backstage, reality TV stars Kourtney and Chloe Kardashian, actor Mekhi Phifer and two women wearing nothing but G-strings and Trump Premium Vodka bottles painted on their nude bodies were spotted. Tickets to the concert went for anywhere between $100 and $1,000.

Keys, Sparks, Petty Ready For Big Game

It isn't just the players who are getting ready for the big game Sunday.

Those who are performing at the Super Bowl are psyching themselves up for their turn in the spotlight. Alicia Keys will perform before the game, Jordin Sparks will do the national anthem and Tom Petty will play at halftime.

So, just how do you put on a show for people who may like music but are really there to watch football? Keys says it's no big deal. She says she'll make sure people will pay attention.

Keys says with her performance she plans to "take you by the neck and demand that you watch me."

"60 Minutes" Correspondent's Leslie Stahl's Apartment Burglarized

A burglar posing as a construction worker made away with about $100,000 worth of jewelry and electronics in a broad-daylight heist at Leslie Stahl's apartment, police said Friday.

Police wouldn't provide specifics, but the New York Post reported the burglar posed as a construction worker and stole several diamond watches, a pearl necklace, earrings, gold and silver necklaces and a laptop.

The break-in occurred during the morning of Jan. 25 at the "60 Minutes" correspondent's apartment overlooking Central Park.

Stahl, a former White House correspondent who has been on the CBS news magazine since 1991, wasn't home at the time. She had no comment on the burglary, a CBS-TV spokesman said.

The burglar reportedly went onto the roof, gained access by breaking a patio door and then ransacked the apartment Stahl shares with her husband, writer Aaron Latham, and daughter.

Suzanne Pleshette Gets Hollywood Star After Her Passing

Actress Suzanne Pleshette got a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame Thursday, less than two weeks after she died from respiratory failure.

On what would have been her 71st birthday, Pleshette received the walk's 2,355th star.

The husky-voiced TV, film and theater star died Jan. 19. She underwent chemotherapy for lung cancer in 2006.

Pleshette was best known for her role as Bob Newhart's wife on "The Bob Newhart Show," a CBS comedy that ran from 1972-78.

Newhart attended the star's unveiling.

"The only thing that exceeds her talent and her beauty was her bravery, because she was one of the greatest women," Newhart said.

"Many people walk through your life and very few people leave footprints on your heart," said Marcia Wallace, another "Newhart" co-star. "She left footprints on my heart, and now we can all leave our footprints on her star. She'd love it."

Tina Sinatra, a daughter of Frank Sinatra, accepted the star on Pleshette's behalf.

"The thought of her with Johnny Grant really makes me feel better," Sinatra said, referring to Hollywood's longtime honorary mayor, who for years presided at star unveilings before his death on Jan. 9.

Miss USA Pageant Heading To Las Vegas

Another beauty battle is moving to Las Vegas.

This year's Miss USA pageant will be held at the Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino on the Las Vegas Strip, executives said Thursday.

The casino already is home to rival pageant Miss America, which crowned its 2008 queen last week.

"What happens in Vegas won't be staying in Vegas as the Miss USA telecast is viewed in more than 80 countries around the globe on live television," said Paula M. Shugart, president of the Miss Universe Organization, in a statement.

NBC, co-owner of the pageant with real estate mogul Donald Trump, will air the competition live on April 11.

Miss USA 2007, Rachel Smith, of Tennessee, was crowned in Los Angeles.
