Bush Dismisses Gonzales' 'no-confidence' Vote As 'meaningless,' Says Immigration Deal Still Possible
Just hours before the Senate votes on whether to take up a "no-confidence" resolution on Attorney General Alberto Gonzales, President Bush dismissed the vote as meaningless and said it would have no impact on Gonzales' tenure at the Justice Department, not matter what the outcome.
"I, frankly, find it interesting that in -- a so-called important subject they need to get to would be to pass a political resolution on my attorney general that's going to have no bearing on whether he serves in office, or not," Bush said at a press conference in Sofia, Bulgaria. Bush was in Sofia for talks with Bulgarian President Georgi Parvanov on a missile-defense shield and other issues.
