Burned body in Pa. ID'd as Brooklyn business owner

(CBS/WCBS) NEW YORK - Authorities have identified a body found shot to death, burned and buried in the woods of eastern Pennsylvania as that of a Brooklyn business man who has been missing for almost two months.

Joshua Rubin, 30, who was last seen leaving his apartment on October 31, was the owner of the now-shuttered Whisk Bakery Cafe in Brooklyn, reports CBS New York.

Although Rubin's body was found the day after his disappearance, it was so badly burned that authorities were unable to identify it until Wednesday, CBS News reports.

Police said the fire was to cover the crime, which was determined to be homicide caused by a single gunshot wound. DNA tests confirmed that the body was Rubin. 

The entire situation is a baffling mystery to many people and a horror for those who have been searching for him.

"I don't understand. I don't understand," neighbor Samuel Gumnitzky said, reports CBS New York.

"He did all the work. He worked so hard. I'll bet he was here six months late nights working on it...that's awful," neighbor Ariela Bowden reportedly said. "He was an awful nice guy. Why would they want to do that to him I cant imagine."

Police are asking the public for help with the investigation.
