Burglar falls asleep on victim's couch, does not rest easy, say Fla. police

Domonique Pinkard Lake County Jail

(CBS) LADY LAKE, Fla. - A 21-year-old Florida man named Domonique Pinkard recently fell asleep on the job - which, according to police, was burglary.

They say they woke Pinkard to arrest him after he fell asleep on the couch in a home he and another man had broken into, according to CBS affiliate WKMG.

Police say a woman called authorities around 7:30 a.m. Sunday  to report that the back door of her home in Lady Lake had been kicked in and that clothing, jewelry and electronic devices were missing, according to WKMG.

Officers reportedly went to the home, and there they found Pinkard asleep on the couch, allegedly with the woman's jewelry in his possession.

Police said further investigation led them to a nearby home where Julian Evangelist, 20, of Lady Lake, was also arrested on burglary charges stemming from the incident. The remaining stolen property was reportedly recovered at that home.

According to the station, Pinkard told police that he sat on the victim's couch while Evangelist carried the stolen television out of the home. Pinkard said he then fell asleep.

Police say Evangelist apparently chose not to wake Pinkard and left with the woman's TV instead.

Both suspects were transported to the Lake County Jail without incident.
