(CBS/WUSA) CLINTON, Md. - Police in Maryland say five children were injured after a bulldog followed them to a school bus stop and attacked them.

Prince George's County police officials say the dog attacked as the children were getting on the bus.

When police arrived on the scene, an officer killed the dog to protect the children.

"I think once he followed that kid on the school bus, and all the kids got excited and hollering, the excitement alone can actually send an animal into another mindset," Prince George's County Animal Management Chief Rodney Taylor told CBS affiliate WUSA.

Four children were transported by ambulance to the hospital. A fifth child was driven to the hospital by family.

Police are still looking for the dog's owner. It was described as an all white, full grown, American Bulldog.
