Brother of Ex-Rep. Jefferson Gets 10 Years
The brother of former U.S. Rep. William Jefferson has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for bribing a former New Orleans school board president.
Political operative Mose Jefferson was convicted in August of charges he paid kickbacks to the school board president for her support in awarding contracts to a computer-based teaching system he sold.
U.S. District Judge Mary Ann Vial Lemmon handed down the sentence Thursday and also fined him $175,000. The judge also ordered him to repay $913,000 to the Orleans Parish School Board.
William Jefferson is out on bond appealing a 13-year federal prison sentence for using his influence to broker business deals in Africa.
