Brokale Lytte Marques was arrested Saturday on child abuse charges shortly after finding his son in a lethargic state at the parking lot of Scottsdale Quarter shopping area.

According to police, the 28-year-old Marques told investigators he left his son in a car seat because he was unable to find a sitter. Marques said the son was in the car with the air conditioning and vehicle running.

Marques also told officers the boy seemed fine when he went to lunch with the child at around 11 a.m. but the boy looked lethargic when he went back to the car at 2 p.m., according to CBS affiliate KPHO.

The child was transported to Scottsdale Healthcare and is listed in critical condition.
