Britney Spears responds to Katy Perry's denim homage at VMAs

Katy Perry and rapper Riff Raff paid homage to an iconic red carpet moment when they entered the VMAs in matching denim. Their look was a salute to the couples outfit worn by Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake at the 2001 American Music Awards.

Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery; and indeed, Britney is flattered. She responded to Perry's tweet on Monday:

Perry and Riff Raff recently teamed up for a remix to "This Is How We Do," a song from Perry's latest album, "Prism." If the outfit choice was meant as an attention grabber to promote the track, mission accomplished.

Perry and Riff Raff weren't the only stars to pull a time-warp on the red carpet. Amber Rose, model and wife of rapper Wiz Khalifa, sported a revealing chain mail dress, evoking memories of Rose McGowan's black chain dress at the 1998 awards with then-partner Marilyn Manson.
