Brady Ready to "Make a Deal"
The game show "Let's Make a Deal" is coming back on CBS. And Emmy-winning television star Wayne Brady is the new host.
Brady, known for his antics on "Whose Line Is It Anyway?" and "Don't Forget the Lyrics," said on "The Early Show" Thursday he knows he has big shoes to fill -- those of original host Monty Hall, but he's not worried.
"I'm doing my own version, which is the same ship, but they hired me to just be me," Brady explained. "They've got the audience, throw me in the middle of the audience, give me some money, and let's make some deals!"
The original "Let's Make a Deal" was a game show staple with Hall at the helm from 1963-1977. It featured audience members making wacky deals to win cash and prizes. While later versions aired in syndication and primetime, the show is best remembered for the years it was hosted by Hall, who will serve as a creative consultant on this latest version.
Brady said he's excited about taking over the franchise, noting, "That doesn't happen every day. You know, most days, someone goes, 'You suck!' But on a good day, they go, 'Here, take this awesome job.' I'm so very happy."
Early Show weather anchor and features reporter Dave Price asked Brady what's it's going to be like to ask someone to open a purse in this day and age.
It's going to be very different now, because we live in a different time, Brady responded, saying, "You ask someone to open up their purse and like, 'Here's my nine millimeter (gun).' I'm like, 'I really don't need that.'"
In addition to the new hosting job, Brady remains on tour for his debut album, "A Long Time Coming," Grammy-nominated for his single "A Change is Gonna Come." He is also performing every week on stage at The Venetian hotel in Las Vegas in his stage show, "Makin' It Up."
"Let's Make a Deal" premieres Oct. 5 on CBS.
