Boy Saves Girl from NY Fire; 3 Found Dead
Police say a 6-year-old boy rescued a 2-year-old girl from a fire at a Long Island house where three adults later were found dead.
They say the two women and one man found in the burned Central Islip house had been shot but it's unclear if they died from gunshot wounds or the fire, which has been ruled an arson.
Homicide Detective Lt. Jack Fitzpatrick says firefighters were called to the blaze Tuesday morning. The two-story house was engulfed in flames.
Neighborhood resident Jessie Scott says the house went up in flames "like a matchbox."
The three adults were found in a back bedroom. One of them lived in the home.
As investigators searched for clues, WCBS-2 reports that family and friends of one murder victim lit candles, hugged, cried and wondered why the life of Louis Calixto was over after just 19 years.
"He was great. He was funny. He was awesome. He was smart. He was loved by everybody," said Annette Forgas, Calixto's aunt.
At Calixto's home, more tears while his father recounted the last words to his son.
"I'll see you. I'll see you this afternoon," Luis Calixto said.
The boy and girl were found outside the home and are doing OK. They've been taken to a hospital.
The scared boy talked to neighbors, according to WCBS-2.
"He saw two strange men and one of their legs was on fire and was burning and he was in pain and then he said he walked out with his sister," witness Kamilla Hussein said.
"We asked him about his mom and where she might be and he didn't know, but he kept saying the car in front of the house was her car," Kareema Hussein added.
