Bomb threat stemmed from woman's rejection of man's advances, say suburban Chicago police
(CBS) WAUKEGAN, Ill. - Police say a suburban Chicago man phoned in a bomb threat against a concert venue because a woman he met there did not like him, CBS Chicago reported.
Vernon Hills police said the man, James N. Trelford, was arrested Tuesday, after they got a call arounds 11 p.m. on Saturday July 20, from a man who claimed to have planted three bombs at the site of the Vernon Hills Summer Celebration in Century Park.
The caller said the bombs would go off in about 15 minutes, a statement from police said.
According to CBS Chicago, police traced the call to the area of origin, about half a mile from the event.
About 11:20 p.m., a Vernon Hills police officer reportedly found Trelford walking and detained him. Police said Trelford admitted making the call, but told them there were no bombs.
Investigators said he made the call because he was mad that a woman he met at the Summer Celebration did not share his affection.
Trelford is charged with three counts of felony disorderly conduct. He was being held in the Lake County Jail on a $25,000 bond.
