Body found in car trunk ID'd as missing Texas woman

DALLAS - A body discovered in the trunk of a Ford Mustang has been identified as a North Texas woman who was reported missing in early December, reports CBS DFW.

Authorities positively identified the body as 48-year-old Lisa Byrd-New Andrews on Wednesday. Police found Andrews' body Tuesday in the vehicle parked outside the Sontera Palms Apartments in east Dallas.

Greenville police spokeswoman Autumn Barton says Andrews was reported missing December 11. She was last seen by her family Dec. 7 driving the Mustang in Greenville, about 50 miles northeast of Dallas. Barton says the car was registered to a family member.

The coroner has not yet released a cause of death but Barton says Dallas police are treating the case as a possible homicide.

Since Andrews body was found in Dallas, the Dallas Police Department will take the lead in the case, reports the station.

Greenville Police Department Assistant Chief of Police Scott Smith said, "I appreciate the work done thus far on the case by the officers of the Greenville Police Department. We look forward to assisting the Dallas Police Department as their investigation gets underway."
