(CBS/WWJ) DETROIT - The case of Bob Bashara is a murder-for-hire plot, wrapped in a murder-for-hire plot.

On Tuesday, Bashara pleaded not guilty to trying to hire someone to kill the man who is accused of killing Bashara's wife.

According to CBS Detroit, Bashara entered the plea Tuesday at his arraignment in Wayne County Circuit Court.

Bashara is accused of plotting to hire someone to kill his former handyman, Joseph Gentz. Gentz is facing murder and conspiracy charges in his own right, accused of killing Bashara's wife, Jane,  whose body was found in her Mercedes-Benz SUV in Detroit in January.  Gentz is the one alleging that Bob Bashara paid him to kill his wife.

Bashara has not been directly charged in his wife's death but has been named as a person of interest.

An Aug. 17 scheduling conference was set for him after his not guilty plea.
